This time in 3 weeks I will be getting off a plane in Utah, where I intend to get the rest of WHO KILLED THE HUMANS? and the first book in THE EARTHLOOP TRILOGY written. I’ve never left the UK before, so I’m looking forward to working out what being inside a plane is like.
This is a writing holiday for me, but it’s also a way to reset my brain. I’ll be looked after by my friend Zaak for the four weeks I’m staying, living in his house and taking in the Utah culture. I need this break. I won’t get into why, but it’s been a weird few years and vanishing into another city across the planet for four weeks might just replace bad weird with good weird.
I’ll be visiting stand-up comedy nights in Salt Lake City as part of this adventure, as well as UFO hunting, and visiting some locations from EARTHLOOP. Upon my return in May, I might launch the first EARTHLOOP book for crowdfunding, depending on how my current queries go.
I realised in my recent interview with The Writer’s Den that EARTHLOOP could be described as a comedy as well, at least if I am the person explaining it. The deadpan, dark sense of humour in some chapters is what I’ll always focus on in interviews because the sheer weirdness of the story is the main selling point, and I’m a comedian so I can’t help myself.
There’s a shapeshifting alien crab who loops back in time three times to save the Earth from another shapeshifting alien who, on top of claiming to have killed him in the future, also wants to go on a date with him.
And that’s just the first chapter.
So comedy is woven into everything I do, which is why I want to start creating more comedy promotions here on Substack.
Here is the first, COSMIC COMEDIES.
It’s a modest collection of funny books or short stories, from sci-fi and fantasy authors.
I plan to make more like this in the future. And whilst the HalfplanetPress Substack is still the home of FREEFICTIONFRIDAY, since this one is comedy and sci-fi related, it made the most sense to put the main post here.
You can expect science fiction and horror prompts soon, at Halfplanet.
