Absolutely, it would also be fine if you read the book and didn't feel up to reviewing at all!
I should've been a bit clearer on that, I do need the reviews, but I'm not expecting any. Just thought I'd ask in case people are the type to write reviews :)
Thank you for clarifying and for leaving the review optional. I am, in fact, someone who writes lots of reviews (see my Goodreads page). If I write one, I usually do it immediately after finishing a book, because my impression of the book is at its strongest then. But you can't review everything--sometimes the intensity just isn't there. If a book is really good, I like to praise it. If it's really bad, sometimes I like to trash it. But if it's just kinda average, well, sometimes there's just not enough motivation
And BTW, I do appreciate the opportunity to get the whole book. I downloaded a PDF a while ago, but it was a teaser containing 4 of the stories. That may give some readers enough of a taste to figure out if they want more. But I usually prefer to get the whole book, because if I am going to take the plunge anyway, I would rather have the entire thing than bits and pieces (I dislike abridgments for the same reason). That way I can get maximum enjoyment and count it towards my yearly Goodreads Reading Challenge.
That makes sense. I had thought the "don't set me homework book boy" option on the second poll made it clear enough that I'm more than happy to just give people the book on one weekend without a review. I only asked because if you don't ask, people who do write reviews might forget. I know I do, I still owe my friends one.
I plan on utilizing all of Amazon's free days for all of my books in the future, so you're now the first to know my two sci-fi poetry collections and a book of 52 horror writing prompts should also be included in the free weekend.
If you enjoyed the PDF teaser I'd imagine you might like the whole book, as I purposefully put a bit of every style in that teaser. The next one, SEVEN STORIES ABOUT TIME TRAVEL, will be a lot more straightforward. I'll be launching advanced reader copies here as well sometime.
Thanks for your feedback on this post. I'll edit it now to make it clearer about the reviews :)
I struggle to review on Amazon, since they seem to have this bizarre policy that you can't review products unless you've spent over a certain amount in the preceding two months, but I can do Goodreads. You'd be welcome to look at the reviews I've already posted there, to see if you like my reviewing style; you need only search my name there, or email me and ask me for a link.
Like you I'm a dedicated atheist, I'm a writer too, and your newsletters seem to indicate that we have a certain commonality in our sense of humour. I think Who Built the Humans would be an excellent read!
Oh that's a weird policy. I did not know about that but I knew some people struggled with it. I also understand if people just want a free book and don't have the energy to write a review, that's fine, but for the purposes of this post I had to ask, which I did find uncomfortable. But if you don't ask, people forget. I know I do. I still owe my friends a review.
Really hoping this makes me worth looking at for bookbub.
A goodreads review would be fantastic, I can still use that for ads and they're owned by Amazon anyway I think. I've not actually checked my goodreads in about six months. Had some issues with them not updating my new cover or details, and got wound up with some other things on there. So I left and pursued other things. Most of my time now is spent trying to market this book. It's not easy.
Glad to have found someone with a similar sense of humour on here. I've found being open with it is a great way to find the right people and get rid of the rest. It'll get darker!
I post nearly all of my reviews on Goodreads, so would that be acceptable as well?

Pleased to hear it John, thank you.
Once I've got the tech sorted I'll be opening beta reading slots for the next book, you'll find out here when those go live :)

Sure we can work something out, beam me a message on twitter :)
