Hello! I’m the Paisleyprintauthor, known to most people as Phillip Carter (but there are other Phillip Carters out there who already had that online name, which I find quite disrespectful but I worked around it, hence the Paisleyprintauthor name).
I’m a Science Fiction author, Poet, Podcaster, Publisher, and class clown. That means I could be a comedian if I put more effort in, and that I think a lot of people take themselves too seriously, so if you’re still cringing from reading the word Poet, don’t worry, none of mine are about flowers or “discovering myself” with an electric toothbrush behind Tesco Extra at 2.38am last Tuesday. They’re usually about space, and if they appear to be about anything even remotely human, there’s still cosmic metaphors to navigate. You can pre-order two of them here.
Anyone ever met a ‘satin geodesic’?
That’s what you can expect.
For my fiction, I tend to write a lot of ‘very clever’ (fan mail words, not mine) stories which are designed to be accessible. What I mean by that is that people with ADHD or who might otherwise struggle to read large stories still enjoy them. For my debut novelthology* WHO BUILT THE HUMANS? I structured reality into 11 distinct cosmoses, each with sub-chapters, so no single part of the book feels too long.
*and I invented the term novelthology to name this strange new genre. This blog is in fact the first use of the term novelthology, unless you count posts on my instagram page.
So that’s what I do. I write strange new things and craft them in such a way that they can be easily read, but so there’s still hidden depths and lore for my geekier readers. That means I get to pretend to be high brow whilst having readers who dislike books with 48 page descriptions of fruit. You know the one. The type of book you pick up in a supermarket by the cheese that talks about someone’s breakup through the metaphor of peeling an orange, and it goes on like this for half the book until you launch it into the stratosphere. I try very hard not to do that.
A result of this writing philosophy is that my ‘trilogy’ isn’t really a trilogy at all, but three loosely connected books which share characters and planets. That means WBTH, The Stephanie Glitch, and the third one (which doesn’t have a name yet) can be read in any order. You don’t have to worry about missing out on anything, and they all remain easy to read as standalone books.
Outside of all that, I have a podcast. This is a very enjoyable thing which I pair with instagram livestreams to simulcast to many different people at once. I’ll be updating you here when I have a new podcast out that fits this blog.
One last thing. If you’re a Science Fiction author or Comedian who wants to be interviewed for a podcast, I need guests. Email me at Halfplanetpress@gmail.com
